FYI-Date Rape Is Not Funny

April 9, 2009 · Leave a Comment

Apparently the new Seth Rogen movie takes the position that sex crimes are just hilariously “edgy” and perfect for a light-hearted comedy.  Really interesting piece on Jezebel about this that I’m linking to below.  Read it before you see the film … especially if you’re a woman.  And, especially if you’re a woman with any experience with sexual assault.

Billy Bob Thornton-Douchebag Extraordinaire

April 8, 2009 · Leave a Comment

So this is an interview good ol’ BBT did with a Canadian radio station for this “band”.  It’s a little long but worth watching.  If you want to fast-forward to the middle of the interview, that’s when it gets really good.  Billy Bob is all bent out of shape because the interviewer, who seems like a totally nice dude, has the audacity to introduce him as an “actor.”  Actors are douchebags in general, I think, and actors who want to be musicians are even huger douchebags.

My New Addiction

Bordeaux chocolate from See’s Candies.  Literally the greatest thing I’ve ever tasted.  I have to say … See’s really kicks Godiva’s ass all over the place.  Plus, they give you a sample everytime you walk in.  I’m in the process of devouring this Bordeaux Easter Egg right now and I’m pretty sure I just had an orgasm.  Since I won’t be having an orgasm that involves another human being until August when my bf gets back from this asinine career path he has insisted upon (not that I’m bitter), this will be as good as it gets.  *sigh*

New No Doubt Song!

Cover of “Stand and Deliver” from my bf, Adam Ant.  I LOVE it!  It’s on E! Online’s home page if you’re looking for it.  But, really?  How can you NOT love Ms. Stefani?  She just screams cool.  Plus, she seems pretty “normal” for being a super-hot, super-famous celeb.  With that hunky husband.  I love her.

In Another Ipod Kinda Mood/NOFX

This has to be the best (and only) punk rock song about Jews … yes, it’s “The Brews” from our friends, NOFX … this song cracks me up … “Friday night we’ll be drinking Manischewitz, going out to terrorize goyim” … to all my Jews out there, an early Passover present!

Cubs Win! Cubs Win!

Great game last night … I stayed up waaaaay too late watching but it was well worth it.  Tonight’s game is also on t.v. sooo I have a feeling I’ll be exhausted tomorrow, too.  Big Z looked superb, as always, and you have to love our line-up … Soriano and Ramirez both going deep off Oswalt, their best pitcher.   God, I love baseball season!  I was so happy I even woke up early and worked out.  I started this new DVD series of workouts with Tracy Anderson, who is Gwenyth Paltrow’s trainer and has an amazing body.  You have to work out two hours a day, 6 days a week and her mat video is HARD.  No weights, squats, crunches … it’s very dance-inspired with a million reps.  My arms hurt so much that I had a hard time washing my hair in the shower.   BUT … this woman claims your whole body will change in 6 weeks.  6 weeks of torture is worth it to like this …

I decided to suck it up …

and stay at work.   Primarily because I have an interview tomorrow (for a real firm … not just this contract bullshit) that I’ll have to leave early to go to … but now I’m thinking I made the wrong decision.  I still have time to get home … what to do, what to do?  Part of it is that I’m super over this whole contract lawyer thing.  I need my own office and to work my own schedule.  Sitting in a cubicle and doing the same boring shit day after day is killing my spirit.  Hopefully my interview will go well tomorrow and I can get the hell out of here … pronto tonto.

I Wonder …

if there is any chance in  hell that the Bears could now pick up Plaxico Burress???  It seems far-fetched but so did the idea of Cutler coming to the Bears?  As long as he refrains from shooting himself, I think he would be an amazing acquisition.  It totally baffles me that the Giants released him.  Yes, he was illegally carrying a gun but really …?  Does anyone believe there are athletes around (especially football players) who are not head cases?  You have to choose the best player.  Unless that guy is a serial killer, I say you go for it.  Plus, football isn’t like baseball; you don’t have that crazily long season with 160 games.  In football, these guys just have to get along for 16 games.

Happy Opening Day!!!

Cubs/Astros … 4 p.m. … do I skip out early to watch (I’m Tivoing, of course) or watch the first part at work on Mlb.com?  Soooo many questions … I haven’t felt super super excited for baseball season to start, for some reason, but I have a feeling that as soon as I see big Z throw out that first pitch, I’ll be mesmerized … thank God the drought is over!!!

My Friend Bruckheim

April 3, 2009 · Leave a Comment

So, my buddy Mike from law school is one of the funniest people I know.  He is one of the few people in the world who makes me laugh out loud with every email he sends.  Bruckheim and I live to give each other shit.  Always have, always will.  It’s one of my favorite activities.  Mike recently posted something on Facebook about loving the new Queensryche album (God help me) and I responded with something along the lines of “hey, stop living in 1987″ … this is his response which cracked me up so I thought I’d share …

“Oh sweet, sweet Pierce…how I miss thee.  I must say, for sheer entertainment purposes, I do enjoy watching you rise to new and astounding levels of douchebaggery.  So, as Samuel Jackson said in Pulp Fiction…allow me to retort.  First of all, I live in 1987??  Please.  You are about as 80’s addicted as anyone I know!  As if your iPod isn’t stuffed with tons of 80’s gems.  Please…if anyone is trapped in the 80’s, it’s you!  And second, you are not a total musical fool.  We  connected on many alternative groups in the 90’s, so don’t play like our tastes don’t drive in the same lanes…they do!  Third and finally, Queensryche f*cking rocks.  Always have, always will.

But I think you especially…and I actually say this without any sarcasm (a rarity, I know)…you would really like their new album.  It’s called “American Soldier,” and it’s a concept album about the experience of soldiering.  Trust me…you would really like this album.

Help me help you, Pierce!”
